Georgia Welfare Reform Impact Assessment: Abstract

View the full project profile

Project Description

This project is to assess the impact of welfare reform on women leaving the welfare rolls, their families and on the broader community. Using administrative and survey data, this project examines four key questions about the impact of welfare reform on women who leave welfare: 1) What were the experiences of these individuals while on welfare? 2) How are former recipients faring? Are they employed? If not, how are they supporting themselves? 3) What is the impact on their children? Is each child in day care or in school? If so, where and what type of day care, etc.? 4) What is the broader impact on the community? These questions will be addressed using existing state databases and the results of telephone surveys of former welfare recipients.
