Program/Policy Description This study examines the extent to which former welfare recipients are likely to be eligible for Unemployment Insurance, and the extent to which former recipients who leave welfare and find work file UI claims. In particular, it examines such questions as: 1) What is the rate of monetary UI eligibility among welfare recipients who leave welfare and find work, and how does this rate change over time? 2) How are nonmonetary factors likely to affect eligibility? 3) For what benefit amounts are these individuals likely to be eligible? 4) How sensitive are UI monetary eligibility rates to varying program parameters? 5) How many former welfare recipients actually file UI claims and receive payments?
